The Impact of BTCP Training in Burkina Faso

In the bustling city of Ouagadougou, Pastor Henri Ye spearheads a mission at the Good Shepherd Baptist Church.

In the year 2000, Pastor Ye's journey took a pivotal turn when he crossed paths with Steve Newport, an advocate for Bible Training Centre for Pastors (BTCP) in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Recognizing the potential for growth and empowerment, Pastor Ye extended an invitation to Newport, setting the stage for a journey of learning and development.

Under Pastor Ye's leadership, the congregation embraced the teachings of BTCP, laying the foundation for a ripple effect of positive change. As members of the church, many serving as deacons or in preaching roles, absorbed the training, a new era of outreach unfolded. Pastor Ye's influence extended beyond Ouagadougou, as he assumed the mantle of regional coordinator for West and Central French-speaking Africa, covering 13 countries.

The impact of BTCP training reverberated as Pastor Ye and his team ventured into the communities, planting churches and nurturing spiritual growth. Notably, their endeavors among the Marka people resulted in the establishment of 16 churches, with plans for further expansion. As the 20th anniversary of their mission work approaches, Pastor Ye reflects on the evolution of their approach, particularly in the inclusion of women through BTCL training.

Through BTCL, women have been empowered to play vital roles in church service and outreach, marking a significant shift in the landscape of Burkina Faso's religious community. With a focus on discipleship and depth of faith, Pastor Ye envisions a future where the impact of their mission extends far beyond numerical growth, emphasizing the importance of nurturing spiritual depth alongside expansion. In the heart of Ouagadougou, Pastor Henri Ye's journey stands as a testament to the power of Bible training for building healthy communities of faith.

I'm Pastor Henri Ye, senior pastor of Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Ouagadougou. In 2000, I met Steve Newport, who introduced me to BTCP training in Abidjan. I invited him to Burkina Faso, and together, we underwent comprehensive BTCP training.

Many of us at the church serve as deacons or in preaching roles, and some have even ventured out to establish new churches. Gradually, I assumed the role of regional coordinator for West and Central French-speaking Africa, covering 13 countries. In Ouagadougou alone, we've planted three churches, and among the Marka people, we've established 16 more.

With plans to expand further, we're celebrating our 20th anniversary of mission work among the Marka people this year. To broaden our impact, we've begun using BTCL to train women, significantly enhancing their involvement in ministry.

Today, BTCP's robust training equips our community to make disciples who, in turn, spread the teachings. Churches we established, such as in Tampoui and Sabah, have flourished and are now actively involved in planting more churches. Our focus isn't solely on numerical growth but also on fostering spiritual depth within our community.
